NICHOLS, N.Y. (AP) — A casino in New York’s Southern Tier has opened a new resort hotel.
Tioga Downs held the grand opening for its new lodging facility on Friday.

The six-floor hotel has 161 rooms and room for events such as weddings and banquets.
It’s adjacent to the casino, which opened last year. Tioga Downs had operated a race track and electronic gambling hall before receiving state approval to transition into a resort casino.
Owner Jeff Gural says the hotel should make the casino an even bigger draw for visitors to the area, which sits along New York’s border with Pennsylvania.

The New York State Gaming Commission Facility Location Board has approved a motion to allow for a fourth casino license in the Southern Tier.
Board members said they have no regrets concerning their casino license recommendations announced last month. They are confident that Seneca County's Lago Resort and Casino was the best choice for the Southern Tier region.
'If there was any fault it was in the drafting of the statute,' said Gaming Facility Location Board Member Stuart Rabinowitz.
But, after being urged by Governor Cuomo to consider re-opening the bidding process for new applications in the Southern Tier, they were unanimous in their decision to comply.
'What I am not open minded about is simply recommending the same applications we've already passed on,' said Gaming Facility Location Board chairman Kevin Law.
At the board's meeting Tuesday night, many expressed their hope for new bidders to enter the game this time around.
'I would be very troubled, very troubled, I'm not predicting an outcome if there was not competition in the Southern Tier,' said Rabinowitz.
Having several applicants will level the playing field, according to Rabinowitz.
'Every region we looked at, we looked at comparative analysis between various proposals. I think it's not impossible but it would be problematic if there were no new proposals,' he said.
And they said if previous bidders are interested in re-applying, their proposals must be different.

And board members made no promises about any additional recommendations.
'This was a competition. There will always be winners and losers. This is not modern day little league where everyone goes home with a trophy,' said Law.
This time around, they're making sure all applicants are fully aware they'll need to up their ante.
